About the Ruby ecosystem
Ruby is the language of the original web framework (Rails) and the original blog engine (Jekyll). The Ruby community has the most mature handoff culture of any ecosystem: gem ownership transfer is well-defined, the Bundler deprecation signal is standard, and 'I no longer maintain this gem' GitHub issues are a long-standing convention.
The Bundler deprecation command is the canonical signal: `bundle gem deprecate <name>`. Once a gem is deprecated, RubyGems flags it for users.
