The story

Cash was the "I want Unix tools on Windows without WSL" project. Calvin Metcalf (calvinmetcalf) wrote it as a 200-line package that reimplemented the most common Unix commands (`ls`, `cat`, `cp`, `mv`, `grep`, `find`, etc.) in pure Node, so you could `npm install -g cash` and use them in cmd.exe or PowerShell without a VM. The repo went quiet in 2016. There are now better alternatives (winlibs, busybox-w64, the Windows Terminal+WSL combo). But Cash still has a place: it's tiny, it's pure JS, and it works on any platform with Node 8+. If you're a JS shop and want shell tools you can install via npm alongside your dev tools, Cash still works.
