The story
database_cleaner is the Ruby gem that lets you choose between truncation, transaction, or deletion strategies for cleaning your test database between specs. It supports ActiveRecord, DataMapper, Sequel, MongoID, and Neo4j. 2.9k stars. It's the de facto standard for Rails testing and the dependency of hundreds of other gems. It's on the maintainers-wanted list. The original maintainer (Ben Mabey) hasn't been active in years; the GitHub org has multiple admins who have all stepped back. The code is stable and doesn't need much for new Ruby/Rails versions, but the gem's metadata, CI, and security advisory responses are all stale. A rescue here is mostly janitorial work + being responsive to the issue tracker.
